South Wales five-piece Dream State have not been a band for many years, but they’re already making waves in the UK rock scene. Their recent single ‘White Lies’ has reached over a million streams on Spotify and the band have recently signed to massive Australian label UNFD and secured tours with Babymetal and As It Is. Impressively, they’ve achieved all this with just one EP to their name – 2015’s Consequences – and a handful of singles. Things are about to lift off for Dream State however with the release of their new EP Recovery.

The new EP blasts off with the aforementioned ‘White Lies’ and it’s easy to see why the song has become such a hit, with CJ Gilpin‘s soaring vocals delivering a huge chorus. Next, ‘In This Hell’ boasts another massive, earworm chorus which alongside the tender, emotive vocals in the first verse, further demonstrate CJ’s versatile voice. CJ’s lyrics detail her personal struggles and recovery, and coupled with her passionate delivery and the band’s tight performance, this leads to some powerful moments.

All five tracks on Recovery, including the heavy-riffing ‘Help Myself’ and upbeat, hope-filled ‘New Waves’, show off an impressive amount of talent for such a young band. Dream State’s music balances the ferocity and hard-hitting riffs of post-hardcore with plenty of catchy hooks and choruses in a refreshing combination that makes them one of the more exciting new bands out there.
